ASSISTANT BUYER

SUMMARY: This position assists the Purchaser in coordinating and executing all aspects of material planning required to successfully produce our products and manage the vendor base.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Utilize MRP for reorders of materials in SAP.
• Generate purchase orders and associated administration as per the direction of the Purchaser.
• Prepare required purchasing reports as required by the organization.
• Place orders for materials as needed based on production estimates and scheduling under the direction from the Purchaser.
• Generate and distribute daily market pricing report for raw meat materials.
• Update daily purchase order pricing for raw meat orders based on the daily market closing report.
• Assist in scheduling delivery of ordered items to minimize time and space in storage yet meet production needs.
• Updates the Vendor Performance database.
• Assist in tracking frozen raw materials to make sure product is utilized using the first-in, first-out method.
• Tracking and reporting of various cost savings initiatives.
• Participate in cross functional teams for projects.
• Participate in annual budget planning process.
• Team participant on R & D projects to ensure all components are available for tests.
• Team participant in the management of RFP’s.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3 years’ experience in purchasing or similar role required, food experience preferred
• Strong computer skills including SAP and Microsoft Office
• Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well with people at all levels are essential
• Strong knowledge of Purchasing procedures, GMP’s in a food manufacturing environment and regulatory guidelines
• Project, performance, and vendor Management
