ERCI is looking for a full time Architectural Historian to join our team in Northwest Washington. You must want to live and work in beautiful Western Washington. ERCI is a small Cultural Resource Consulting firm that has operated out of Skagit County here in Washington State for 20 years. We provide support for projects small to large and are developing our built environment division. Northwest Washington is a region with diverse architectural resources and a spectacular natural environment with easy access to both mountains and ocean for skiing, camping, hiking, fishing, boating, and our office is within easy distance of both Seattle and Vancouver, BC and their cultural attractions

You will be making $27.00 to $40.00 per hour depending on your experience-with room for growth. You will have use of a company car and office and field equipment. We offer free temporary housing if you need to relocate. We encourage early to mid -career professionals to apply. All applications will get a response. We are looking for someone who specializes in architectural history so please only apply if this is your experience/interest area.

You will be photographing buildings and structures and conducting field work using the Esri ArcGIS Survey 123 field app. You will be spending at least half your time in the field recording buildings or at archival repositories conducting research on the history of the recorded properties. Office work will involve writing building descriptions, statements of significance, historic context statements, and National Register of Historic Places eligibility recommendations, as well as contributing to cultural resources reports, and managing data in excel, Survey 123, and the state cultural resources database.

Requirements: -

  • Master’s Degree in Historic Preservation or Architectural History. You must have your degree either in hand or can show that you will have it in hand before Fall of 2023.
  • Must have a driver’s license.

Skills we are looking for:

  • Knowledge of the history of Washington state or a passion to learn about the history and how to describe the built environment here.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws as they are applied in Washington State or a keen willingness to learn this.
  • Experience recording and evaluating resources for National Register of Historic Places eligibility.
  • Willing to learn GIS as it applies to your data and are happy to collect data digitally.
  • Someone who wants to be part of a team for research and reporting.
