About This Role:

The Lamar University Information Technology – Enterprise Services team is looking for an Application System Admin II, responsible for providing user support, system maintenance and administration of the various business critical solutions across the application portfolio. The senior position will provide guidance and mentorship to other team members.
The Enterprise Services (ES) team in Information Technology Division (ITD) is responsible for supporting a variety of third party and in house interfaces/integrations, reporting applications, and databases which operate with Ellucian Banner (ERP) and other standalone and cloud enterprise applications.
The candidate will be expected to work on assignments under general direction of the Technical Applications Manager (TAM). We look for motivated individuals with a demonstrated aptitude for technology, a customer service mentality and the willingness and ability to learn new tools and technologies. The successful candidate will support the mission of Information Technology and Lamar University by providing high quality, professional IT services and timely response and solutions to customer requests.

This position will provide day to day application support as needed including before, after hours and weekends. Apply updates and fixes to various applications. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with the applications and processes. Submit, track and escalate support tickets with various vendors and service providers for an application when necessary. Coordinate application monitoring for n-tier applications. Work closely with the Service Desk to provide excellent customer service and support.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain installation and upgrade documentation, check lists for internal processes and procedures. Create work plans, test plans and coordinate testing activities. Document process diagrams, data flow diagrams, root cause analysis as appropriate.
  • Install, configure, optimize, upgrade, patch and maintain on-prem and cloud applications in multi-platform environments. Monitor, diagnose and resolve issues with applications.
  • Develop, update, and maintain processes for automated file transfers.
  • Provide support for applications, as needed.
  • Update and review tickets daily.
  • Analyze trending issues and recommend process and technology improvements.
  • Explore and implement integrations and automations utilizing technologies such as scripts, APIs and vendor provided middleware.
  • Take ownership and improve internal processes related to the administration of applications supported including quality assurance guidelines. Improve Application administration standards and processes to promote increased quality, performance and customer service and experience. Improve Application processes to promote increased performance, efficiency and customer self-sufficiency.
  • Participates in a planned program of professional development – keep abreast of new technologies and make recommendations on how these may be utilized within the organization.
  • Attend application technical training, workshops, seminars, meetings and other trainings, as required.
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions in team discussions
  • Prepare regular status reports for manager
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Work closely with the office of the ISO to develop and maintain standards and procedures aligning with the university policies.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information technology, or other information technology related field or five years system administration experience supporting complex application computing environments, including experience with Linux, Windows and relational databases, with a demonstrated understanding of the security issues involved in maintaining and safeguarding institutional data.

  • Strong oral, written communication skills and organizational skills..
  • Must have an understanding of the software development life-cycle, including change management, functional and technical specification development.
  • Installation, configuration of application software in an enterprise environment on Linux and Windows platforms.
  • Installation, configuration of MS-SQL servers in an enterprise environment.
  • Must have strong problem solving skills.
  • Must have ability to develop testing plans, and coordinate necessary resources like coworkers and customers to facilitate maintenance activities.
  • Basic understanding of networking and troubleshooting.

  • Experience as an administrator in a team working directly with functional counterparts on requirements gathering and program specification and design and information systems that interact with ERP platforms such as Banner .
  • Familiarity with Cloud based offerings and cloud deployments .
  • Familiarity with orchestration and automation toolsets including Cloud native architectures.
  • Ability to work though ambiguous work situations.
  • Ability to develop, diagnose and debug automation and integrate modern and legacy tools to optimize business processes.
  • Experience with the following applications: MAPS, Automic, Xtender/BDMS, Millennium.
  • And more importantly, a willingness to learn more about all the above.
