Announcement Imam, Stamford Islamic Center Incorporated of Stamford, Connecticut (SIC)

The aims and purposes of SIC are to advance the cause of Islam and serve Muslims in the Greater Fairfield area to enable them to adopt Islam as a complete way of life. Towards this end, it shall follow the Islamic doctrines and belief according to the Sunni’s (Hanafi) school of thoughts.

Responsibilities of the Imam:

The following is a list of responsibilities the community and SIC Board expect of the imam:

· Activate and motivate the youth in the community to participate in activities arranged by the Center

· Leads the daily prayers at the masjid.

· Leads Jumu’ah prayer and gives the khutbah.

· Leads Eid Prayers and gives the khutbah.

· Providing funeral services and guidance.

· Provides matrimonial and divorce counseling and services.

· Teaches courses and gives daily reminders for adults (topics: Qur’anic studies, Hadith, Seerah.

· Conducts youth focused activities and interactive programs (example: Quran memorization, halaqas, outdoor activities, basketball etc.)

· Leads outreach and da’wah activities for both Muslims and people of other faiths.

· Maintains regular and convenient office hours at the masjid for members of the community who seek counsel and guidance.

· Maintains online presence to remain available to the community as an imam/leader

· Interacts with all persons and organizations, Muslim and non-Muslim, in a manner that reflects positively on the masjid.

· Conducts himself at all times in ways that foster unity and a sense of inclusion among all members of the local Muslim community and promote broad participation in Islamic and community activities.

· Lead by example to prevent discrimination on any basis including but not limited to school of thought, gender, race, nationality, ethnic origin, citizenship, political affiliation, or economic status.

· Work with Masjid’s Board on fundraising programs for the Masjid as needed.

· Provide consultation to the Board of Directors on religious matters, community issues, and Mosque activities as requested.

· Regular meetings on monthly or quarterly basis with the Board of SIC to evaluate performance.

Required Qualifications: SIC is seeking following qualifications in the imam to lead the Muslim community:

· Hafiz ul Quran able to lead Tarawih prayers during the Ramadan.

· Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies or Islamic History from a reputable institution.

· He must hold the beliefs of Sunni’s school of thoughts

· He must have rigorous education in Islamic studies through acceptable means which may include recognized Islamic institutions and other traditional methods.

· Mature and broad understanding of Islam and very polite demeanor

· Masters tajwid rules to ensure correct recitation of the Qur’an.

· Knowledgeable in the Seerah, Hadith, Tafseer of the Quran, and other Islamic sciences.

· Effective Arabic and English communication skills able to connect with Muslim youth

· Integrity, Islamic manner, and high moral standards.

· Experience with introducing Islam to people of other faiths and Dawah activities.

· Experience with family and youth counseling
