This position is for an Airframe Structure Design Engineer for the U-2 Advanced Development Programs (ADP) effort in Palmdale, CA. A successful candidate will apply technical expertise in developing solutions to aircraft structural design problems. This position will require a successful applicant to develop airframe design solutions under general direction and independently. They will coordinate efforts across a wide range of functional organizations, such as Quality Assurance, Planning, Tooling, Structural Analysis, Materials & Processes, Flight Sciences, Production Operations, Flight Test, and various other engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Creating requirements for standard repairs.
  • Coordinating with suppliers, internal and external integrated product teams.
  • Providing manufacturing, component test and ground/flight test support.
  • Investigating and determining root cause and recommending corrective actions for component failures.
  • Serving as a primary Liaison technical contact for airframe structural repairs on site. Assisting other field operating locations with repair solutions considered beyond technical manual criteria.
  • Periodic training and support at Programmed Depot Maintenance (PDM) in Palmdale, CA

Must be a US Citizen. This position is located at a facility that requires special access. Selected applicant must have a secret security clearance to start.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Experience working at field operating locations.

  • Experience developing or performing a variety of aircraft structural repairs, both composite and metallic.

  • Experience in troubleshooting aircraft hydraulic, fuel, flight control, and environmental control systems.

  • Experience with CATIA, Solidworks, Pro Engineer, Creo, Unigraphics, NX or equivalent 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tool.
Desired Skills:
  • Experience in CATIA V4 and V5.

  • Experience with metallic and composite design.

  • Previous Material Review certification.

  • Experience with hand stress analysis.
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California or New York City is $94,500 - $178,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
