Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The School of Nursing partners with the NC Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) to provide continuing nursing education and training in communities throughout the state to meet the primary health care needs of North Carolinians.

The NC AHEC Program has been in existence since 1972 and is a cooperative educational venture between UNC and nine (9) Area Health Education Centers (Area L, SEAHEC, Charlotte, Eastern, Greensboro, Southern Regional, Northwest, Mountain and Wake).

The School of Nursing (SON) AHEC office is part of the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Nursing. The AHEC office provides coordination of AHEC Statewide Nursing and Health Care activities across the nine (9) statewide regional sites and facilitates the provision of faculty to offer nursing and Health Care continuous professional development courses (CPD) , consultation, and technical assistance. School of Nursing faculty teach and present for approximately 60 to 70 CPD offerings to include conferences, workshops, and courses annually. In addition, this office oversees the Primary Care Certificate Program. the statewide AHECRN Refresher Program, AHEC off-campus nursing academic progression degree support programs, AHEC Clinical Site Development grants, special initiatives statewide, (i.e. ad-hoc committees LPN to BSN committee), and interfaces with various statewide nursing organizations such as the NC Board of Nursing, the NC Nursing Action Coalition, the NC Community College System, the NC Nurses Association as well as the UNC general administration.

Additionally, this office tracks and monitors all AHEC travel expenditures for School of Nursing faculty according to published AHEC Guidelines as well as nursing trends and continuing professional development needs throughout the State of North Carolina.

This position provides administrative support for the AHEC program including coordinating workshops, administering the program budget, organizing liaison and faculty travel, and preparing annual reports.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Ability to communicate and disseminate information to students, nurses and stakeholders. Responsible for scheduling on site and virtual meeting. Ability to multi-task in a busy environment. Support marketing of the RN Refresher program and answer general questions. Manage travel reimbursements. Maintain accurate data management of budget, resources and program outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience with NC AHEC program. 1-2 years of administrative support experience.
