JOB OPPORTUNITY

Position Title: Adult Education Instructor

Reports to: Director, Adult Education

Term of Employment: Full-time Instructor for Murray/Calloway County Center

Work Location: 201 General Services Building, Murray State University, Murray, KY 42071

Compensation: Compensation commensurate with years of experience, educational background, and the approved certified salary schedule of the West Kentucky Educational Cooperative Adult Education Program.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Academic instruction for adults preparing for the General Education Diploma (GED) and for employment advancement.
• Demonstrated ability to work with adults in a formal setting and to complete required reports and records.
• Baccalaureate or higher professional degree required.
• Public school teaching and administrative experience preferred.
• Recruit students who qualify for Adult Education services and volunteers as appropriate.
• Interview all enrollees, gather basic data and assess beginning performance levels.
• Assist enrollees in setting realistic short-term goals.
• Orient clients to the kinds of self-instructional and group instructional materials.
• Prescribe a program to meet the needs of the individual student and begin program of instruction.
• Set up a schedule for follow-up visits/interviews/assessments for each client.
• Provide individual assistance, check progress and supply materials for further growth.
• Observe and record information about student progress and personal needs and problems.
• Meet periodically with instructional peers/Consortia Director and report on progress and problems and discuss optional techniques/materials for educational growth.
• Attend training programs designed to improve job performance.
• Refer clients to community resources as needed and appropriate.
• Collect and compile data for monthly and annual reports and provide information to Consortia Director as appropriate.
• Carry out assigned task promptly and efficiently.
• Practice professional ethics including respect for the confidentiality of clients and fellow workers.
• Participate in the minimum required Kentucky Adult Education sponsored Staff Development, WKEC Quarterly Staff meetings, as well as appropriate local and regional sponsored activities.
• All other duties as assigned by supervisor as needed for the success of the adult education program.
