JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Adoption Worker
DEPARTMENT: Adoption Agency
SUPERVISOR: Social Services Supervisor
HOURS: Flexible

JOB SUMMARY:

The Adoption Worker assesses families in the adoption home study certification process, is the family’s primary recruit support in the matching process for adoption from foster care, supports the family and child’s caseworker in transition planning, navigates ICPC, and supervises the placement of an adoptive child in the home until finalization occurs.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in social work, psychology, guidance and counseling, or a similar subject area.
  • Two years of experience in family and children’s services, one year of which must include providing adoption services.
  • Ability to pass agency state and federal criminal background check.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Current automobile insurance.
  • College level writing skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Adobe Suite, Salesforce, Etc.

COMMUNICATION:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (orally as well as in writing) with a variety of individuals from varying socio-economic, cultural, and educational backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to flex personal communication style to meet the needs of the individual or individuals being communicated with.
  • Communicate team, and program progress to Supervisor and Adoption Agency

Director.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:

  • Utilize clinical skills and judgement to assess the fitness of a family for the adoption services they are requesting.
  • Staff with adoption workers and adoption agency director regarding the fitness of a family to adopt based on the home study and issue a signed approval or denial for the use of the home for adoption.
  • Make clear evidenced based recommendations as to the child needs and characteristics the family is approved to adopt or outline the agency policies that prevent the prospective family from being approved at this time.
  • Perform thorough safety inspections of prospective adoptive parent’s homes.
  • Author concise, well written, and accurate home study documents.
  • Represent prospective adoptive families in the process of recruiting a suitable child match and play an active role in locating matches.
  • Represent prospective adoptive families at matching and selection events with a well-prepared presentation that meets or exceeds agency standards.
  • Facilitate the receipt and processing of disclosure documents.
  • Formulate and facilitate appropriate transition planning for the adoptive child in partnership with the child’s caseworker and the prospective family.
  • Supervise post placement wellness for the prospective family and adoptive child including: parenting skills, behavior management, therapy, counseling, education, enrichment, bonding, safety, etc.
  • Issue monthly post placement court reports outlining services provided to the children and family.
  • Maintain compliance with agency licensing standards for the state in which the prospective family resides.
  • Meet with the Social Services Supervisor monthly.
  • Work collaboratively with other Agency staff.
  • Other responsibilities identified by the Adoption Agency Director Executive Director.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & SELF-DEVELOPMENT:

  • Attend monthly Adoption Worker webinars.
  • Complete no less than twenty hours of adoption onboarding training within the first

30 days of employment.

  • Complete no less than twenty hours of adoption-related accredited training annually.
  • Maintain working knowledge of current programs, policies, and procedures related to foster care and adoption in the states AFFEC currently serves.
  • Additional training as required for your role.

Pay: $10,000.00 - $25,000.00 per year
