Duties and Responsibilities
Provides Administrative Assistance for Research and Academic Responsibilities of Faculty
  • Provides wide range of administrative support for Cancer Biology faculty
  • Serves as a resource for internal and external departments requiring information or data.
  • Orients new faculty and staff to the department, provides initial support and training on computer programs and systems, including Lawson and the Information Portal. Responds to faculty, staff and graduate students’ questions or problems.

Coordinates Cancer Biology Seminar Series
  • Prepares itinerary for the invited guest speaker’s lecture and appointments with faculty campus-wide. Manages travel for outside speakers, arrange hotel and transportation, etc.
  • Arranges audio visual equipment for seminar, and manages the execution of the seminar, troubleshooting any needs that arise.
  • Facilitates accommodations and catering for the seminars, including speaker dinners.
  • Manages communication of seminars for internal and external audiences.

Cancer Biology Department Administrative Support
  • Assists the Administrator as needed.
  • Plans and coordinates special projects and events.
  • Manages department inventory of office supplies.
  • Maintains purchase requisitions, check requisitions, expense reports, and supply orders for the faculty and staff. Troubleshoots expenditure questions with Administrator and purchasing, vendors, accounts payable department, SPA, etc.
  • Coordinates all Cancer Center Auditorium, Cancer Center Library, and conference room reservations. This includes: maintenance of the on-line calendar system, distribute follow up confirmation and housekeeping set up for each reservation, posting of weekly calendar of events in multiple locations, assisting presenters in regard to AV equipment, troubleshoot as necessary.
  • Designated back up for Administrator for Kronos staff timecard review, correction, and approval.

Research Facility Support Cancer Biology
  • Coordinates housekeeping and facilities needs for Cancer Biology Department labs, common equipment rooms, offices and other areas.
  • Provides support for lab moves and relocations.
  • Maintains service agreements on equipment and oversees equipment service calls for various research equipment, copiers, computers, printers, etc.

Manages Cancer Biology Department Webpage
  • Maintains Cancer Biology Department web site. Updates and monitors the web site in accordance with standards and requirements as mandated by the University. Coordinates with Marketing and Communication department as needed

Additional responsibilities for the Department of Cancer Biology will include support for the Chairperson, support for new faculty recruitment, and support for the new Masters of Cellular and Molecular Oncology program and other educational programs.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three year of experience in an administrative position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. Knowledge in fundraising and/or higher education is considered beneficial.
