Accounting Manager

Our rapidly expanding family of companies is currently seeking an Accounting Manager to assist our Controller with maintaining day-to-day management of our multi-company environment that operates nationwide. The entities within the conglomerate will be assigned to an Accounting Manager who will be responsible for managing the accounting functions and staff supporting the assigned entities. In addition to the daily activities of the department, our Accounting Manager is responsible for business process improvement, identifying opportunities to innovate procedures, and providing strategic guidance to executive management from their role as a Business Partner and subject matter expert within the Finance team. This position may require intermittent travel to field offices in the southeast to work with our local office manager/bookkeepers.

JOB DUTIES

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the accounting team assigned to entity support; including accurate and timely processing of A/P, A/R, and Cost Accounting.
  • Prepare GL reconciliations and journal entries, including management of revenue recognition and the month-end closing cycle.
  • Prepare entity-assigned financial reporting & analysis, including a heavy emphasis on accurate project-based accounting.
  • Monitor operational performance to assist those departments in running projects efficiently and within budget.
  • Manage entity-assigned treasury duties to include cash flows and ensure periodic cash projections are completed.
  • Maintain and update our system of controls and review standards over accounting transactions, including management of Work In Progress.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings, including sales tax.
  • Assist with the preparation of timely and complete financial statements
  • Supervise and develop a growing team of in-house and remote office manager/bookkeepers.
  • Work with the Controller and Director of Finance to complete special projects as needed.

SKILL, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be positive, detailed oriented, curious, thorough, and willing to challenge the status quo.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or business required, CPA a plus.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer literacy, including Excel comprehension.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting procedures, GAAP.
  • Understanding Government Accounting to include FAR, indirect rates and incurred cost proposals preferred.
  • Data analytics skills. Ability to interpret and handle large amounts of data.
  • More than 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in a construction company.
  • Knowledge of Intacct and QuickBooks a plus.
  • Ability to work well with others under deadline situations and respond to changes in priorities.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities and see projects through to completion.
  • Employ problem-solving skills and analysis, and report problems to the Controller.
