Employee Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive starting salary range: $55,942 (minimum) - $66,152 (midpoint) DOQ. The full range for the position is currently $55,942 - $77,201.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Accountant:

  • Performs general accounting functions by preparing journal entries to record all necessary transactions in the City's general ledger system including recurring and one-time transactions.
  • Transmits appropriate files to online banking system, including positive pay files for checks written and ACH payment files. Verifies all transactions with bank involving payments, investments or deposit records and correctly records such data in the City's financial system. Reconciles monthly bank statements for all accounts, researching and correcting discrepancies between the general ledger and the bank balances.
  • Assists with recording and/or reconciling City investment activity.
  • Prepares payroll ACH payments and reconciles payments to system reports.
  • Processes cash receipts from various departments on a daily basis and prepares daily deposits.
  • Provides ambulance billing support services. Received and processes payments and communicates all activity with third-party billing company; evaluates past due billings and cash receipts for submission to collection agency program.
  • Works closely with the ambulance billing and collection agency to companies to ensure collection.
  • Processes new and annual business and liquor license applications, including follow-up, analysis, filing and preparation of routine monthly reporting. Issues temporary merchant, temporary liquor, and solicitor permits. Maintains the No Solicit List.
  • Utilizes critical thinking, research and analysis for special projects and to determine appropriate accounting treatment for new or infrequent transactions.

Required Qualifications for the Lead Payroll & Accounts Payable Administrator:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of responsible financial accounting experience.
  • Work experience must include computerized financial systems and use of Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications for the Lead Payroll & Accounts Payable Administrator:

  • Governmental and/or non-profit accounting and/or audit experience.
  • Understanding of fund accounting.
  • Bank reconciliation experience.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task and research discrepancies.
  • Self-starter who is comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable with Excel functions and formulas.
