Job Purpose:

Territory: DE, MD, VA, WV, NC, SC, GA, FL

Represent Progress Rail in contacting customers, within a defined territory regarding products and services. The position will be responsible for managing shortline, contractor, transit and industrial accounts. This position will represent Progress Rail in the marketing of our entire catalog of Rail Infrastructure products.

Key Job Elements:

  • Prospect for new opportunities for Infrastructure products;
  • Conduct product presentations to customers with technical support;
  • Act as a liaison between Progress Rail’s operations, accounting, engineering and other departments that request assistance with customers within a coverage area;
  • Develop and implement effective sales strategies for new and existing customer accounts;
  • Provide marketing intelligence for current sales and future growth;
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships to understand and anticipate their needs;
  • Provide weekly sales updates, including tracking of all opportunities;
  • Travel to customer sites;
  • Participate in trade shows;
  • Support post-sales activities including product delivery, customer follow-up, and A/R collection;
  • Aggressively work to close business opportunities;
  • Create and present quotations and proposals to customers;
  • Aggressively follow up on open quotes and work to close business opportunities;
  • Organize, plan, and prioritize effectively;
  • Utilize the Sales Force platform to create quotations enter weekly call reports and manage customer accounts;
  • Negotiate contracts with the assistance of the legal and compliance departments.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Prefer a minimum of 2 years’ experience within the railroad industry;
  • Prefer a minimum of 3 years’ experience in an industrial sales setting;
  • Ability to think strategically and adapt to changing market conditions;
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others;
  • High level of creativity and analytical ability to design effective customer proposals;
  • Must have a good sense of urgency;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Significant domestic travel required (minimum 50%);
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills;
  • Working knowledge of PC applications - Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint;
  • Familiarity in shortline, industrial and transit markets;
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with customers, suppliers and internal departments.
