What You'll Be Doing
YOU will perform a variety of clerical and technical support work in the preparation and maintenance of manual and automated fiscal records, reports, and accounting related work.

Examples of Work
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties; composes and types correspondence, reports, forms, etc. ensuring completeness and accuracy of information.

  • Answers telephone and handles inquiries from citizens; may assist customers at counter as needed.

  • When assigned to perform DMV (Department of Motor Vehicle) Select services may facilitate the processing of; vehicle titles, vehicle registrations, license plate orders, permits, handicapped parking placards, transcript requests, name and address changes, dealer title and registration transactions, returned checks, voter registration applications and Department of Game and Inland Fisheries transactions.

  • Assists customers in completing personal property filing form, posts forms. Maintains personal property records.

  • Balance daily cash transactions and prepare reports; deposit funds collected from DMV Select transactions. Assists in the preparation of financial reports and maintain records.

  • Performs a variety of clerical duties; composes and types a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, etc. Ensures completeness and accuracy of all information; ensures correct use of grammar, spelling, content, and format.

  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications

Graduation from high school or successful completion of GED is required, preferably supplemented by business school or college coursework in accounting or bookkeeping.

A minimum of one-year clerical bookkeeping experience, which must have included data entry and automated recordkeeping.

Strong knowledge of clerical methods used in keeping fiscal accounts and records; good knowledge of office terminology, procedures, routines, and equipment; good knowledge of business arithmetic and English; some knowledge of financial theory, principals, and practices underlying state and city laws and regulations governing municipal financial matters. Ability to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to exhibit excellent customer service skills and establish harmonious working relationships with other employees and the general public.

Required to possess a valid driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record based upon the City of Hampton criteria. A criminal background check is required prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
