Duties and Responsibilities:
Auburn University at Montgomery announces a full-time Academic Advisor and AUMTeach Recruiter position, beginning Spring Semester 2023, to work specifically in the AUMTeach program to recruit and advise students who are part of the AUMTeach program. The advising load would be approximately 250 students; however, this program is in the startup phase and more emphasis would be initially on recruiting of students and the advising load would grow.

Advisor responsibilities include:
  • advising STEM majors who are pursuing a minor in STEM Teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • assist with registration coordination and schedule adjustments, develop advising documents such as plans of study and curriculum guides; evaluate and update student records; perform graduation checks
  • serve on AUMTeach committees; monitor student progress; serve as the AUMTeach representative at university advisor meetings; advocate for AUMTeach students; and generally advise about the next step in the program.


Recruitment responsibilities include:
  • working with AUMTeach faculty and co-directors to recruit potential students through means such as individual conversations, mailings, presentations to UNIV classes and orientations, and visiting local community colleges.
  • This position will require occasional work on weekends or at night such as Saturday Admissions events or presentations to evening classes.
  • Participate in University recruiting trips to area High Schools and Community Colleges

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Expertise in appropriate use of instructional technology
  • Interest in assisting future secondary STEM teachers reach their potential

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college, preferably in a STEM related field.
  • A minimum of two years experience as an advisor or recruiter or any student services related position that is focused on helping students
