Role and Responsibilities:

Full Time position supporting the Self Defense Test Ship (SDTS) filling a Field Engineer position as a Gas Turbine Mechanical Technician on SDTS. The position is onboard the SDTS located in NSWC Port Hueneme, California.

Position Qualifications:

  • Gas Turbine Mechanical technician must possess a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in electronics and four to six years of Navy gas turbine mechanics experience or no degree and eight to ten years documented experience in operation, maintenance, and repair of US Navy gas turbine control systems.
  • Must have five plus years of experience working with the maintenance and repair of LM 2500 Gas Turbine Engines, Allison 501- K17 or K34 Gas Turbine Generators.
  • Must have knowledge of mechanical, pneumatics and hydraulics, as well as digital multiplexed systems, process analyzers, systems data processors, measurement and control devices.
  • Must be able to support overnight underway evolutions (includes regular housekeeping/cleaning).
  • Must be able to troubleshoot in accordance with approved technical manuals, schematics and blueprints.
  • Must be able to take log readings and stand underway watches.
  • Must serve as member of ship’s Damage Control Fire Party.
  • Must have experience and competence in US Navy Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
  • Must be able to participate and provide training instructions.
  • Must be able to work under minimal supervision, perform and complete tasks with limited guidance.
  • Must have basic computer Microsoft Office skills (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, data entry)
  • Have a valid driver’s license with own transportation.
  • Must have no criminal record and able to satisfactorily complete background check.
  • Able to follow company policies and procedures.
  • Able to write, speak and understand English and able to write clear, detailed reports.

Preferred Skills:

  • GSM “C” School.
  • Familiar with CG-47 or DD-963 class Ships.
  • EOOW, PACC or Engine room operator qualified.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb up and down the shipboard vertical ladders.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass Shipboard Fire Party School.
  • Must be able to get underway to support mission operations.
