Job Summary

The Shipping and Receiving Team Member will be responsible for performing various types of product packing and shipping in accordance with established procedures and standards. This role will support all departments by receiving incoming packages, inventorying items, receiving and checking the contents of packages against packing lists. Accuracy and attention to detail are key in this position. Having a CDL is a plus!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares items for shipment using proper tools and packaging materials. Including, construction, crating, shrink wrapping etc.
  • Organizes outgoing shipments daily for on-time shipment or delivery to customer.
  • Verifies contents and quantities of the shipment match the packing list description.
  • Weighs the shipment.
  • Checks the shipment for appropriate and secure packaging.
  • Confirms accurate and complete shipping documentation is affixed to shipment, including packing lists, bills of lading, address labels, etc.
  • Unpack and examine incoming shipments, rejects/reports damaged items, and records shortages.
  • Receives incoming shipments
  • Compare contents and quantities of shipment to packing list and/or bill of lading.
  • Unloads, stocks or routes incoming shipments if necessary.
  • Enter product into computer inventory system and store in proper warehouse location.
  • Maintain computer automated inventory and management system to ensure actual physical inventory matches database inventory. Investigate/correct inventory discrepancies.
  • Communicate effectively with internal manufacturing, supervisory, and support groups concerning materials, inventory and shipment issues.
  • Work with transportation carriers regarding incoming and outgoing product shipments.
  • Knows and complies with all personal, equipment and facility safety practices and regulations; understands and follows company workplace rules.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
  • Operate lift truck/hand truck to move or store materials.
  • Manually lift materials for storage and/or transport to manufacturing operations.
  • Maintain compliance to safe work and quality compliance standards and practices.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and compliance to 5S/Lean manufacturing concepts/practices.

Essential Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 0 – 50 pounds frequently; 50 – 75 pounds occasionally; over 75 pounds rarely.
  • Must be able to routinely stand, sit, stoop, twist and bend throughout a nine-hour shift.
  • Visual acuity (corrected) required for reading work orders, weight scales and shipping documentation.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Must be able to follow both written and verbal instruction.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must be able to use packaging and material handling equipment commonly used in metal manufacturing.
  • Must be able to communicate and interact successfully with people at a cross-functional level.
  • Must be able to work and pay attention to detail in a fast-paced environment, but also be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must have an excellent work ethic and superior attendance.

Education and Experience Required

  • Minimum High School Diploma / GED required.
  • Six months experience in metal fabrication industry preferred.
