Northwest AEA provides special education and school improvement services to 34 public school districts and 32 accredited, non-public schools. The agency serves 45,000 students and more than 5000 educators in a 10-county area of Northwest Iowa (Lyon, Osceola, Sioux, O'Brien, Plymouth, Cherokee, Woodbury, Ida, Monona, and Crawford).

Position Purpose/Summary

Work collaboratively with families and service providers to identify families’ strengths, concerns, and priorities through the development and implementation of IFSPs and IEPs and serve as a consultant to early childhood settings.


Qualifications

  • Master’s in special education in an endorsement area listed under Early Childhood Special Education

Duties/Functions/Tasks

  • Support families in meeting the unique health and developmental priorities.
  • Assist, support, and provide resources and training to teachers, principals, directors, and childcare staff that deliver services in early childhood programs.
  • Assist the AEA and LEAs regarding compliance with special education rules and regulations.
  • Provide for the enhancement of academic performance and support for implementation of the school district student achievement goals.
  • Use content knowledge appropriate to the teaching positions.
  • Plan and prepare for student instruction, using coaching strategies through the implementation of IEPs.
  • Use Family Guided Routines Based Intervention strategies to deliver instruction that meet the multiple learning needs of children and families.
  • Use a variety of methods to monitor student learning.
  • Apply appropriate instructional management strategies and techniques.
  • Fulfill professional responsibilities established by the AEA and the local school district.
  • Assist AEA/LEA problem solving teams in designing, implementing, and evaluating intervention plans, and making subsequent instructional decisions for students experiencing learning or behavior problems.
  • Participate in full and individual student evaluations, including analysis of interventions, planning, assessment, and reporting.
  • Adhere to the Iowa Department of Education rules, Northwest AEA policies and procedures, and IDEA Part B and C federal statute and regulations.
  • Use available technology to complete and disseminate appropriate documentation of activities and results.
  • Serve as a resource to parents as a transition linkage to outside referral agencies.
  • Apply knowledge of cultural and linguistic diversity and social context or the development of, and learning in, young children in the design of appropriate intervention strategies.
  • Perform ongoing support and resources to LEA staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.


A transfer shall be considered a change in an employee’s assigned region (East, North, West). Assigned regions are based on the school buildings/districts, including non-public PK-12
buildings, to which an employee is assigned. Certified employees not assigned to specific districts/schools will have “Agencywide” as their assigned region.
