Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

We are seeking a Zone Maintenance Supervisor who supports FM's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound working conditions for University Critical Research and Academic facilities. The incumbent performs mechanical, technical and diagnostic work to resolve problems concerning the operation, maintenance, repair within the zone; provides training, guidance and supervision to zone maintenance personnel which may include electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters, trades utility workers, assistants, and apprentices assigned to the work group. The incumbent also provides positive leadership in a manner that reinforces the University's commitment to a respectful and inclusive workplace.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct skilled and unskilled staff in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment.

  • Supervise and train employees that may specialize in several different trades.

  • Delegate assignments to ensure timely and efficient completion of projects.

  • Recommend or initiate personnel actions and administer organization's policies for the department.

  • Provide information for record keeping, and management of supply and equipment resources.

  • Plan and schedule building and maintenance work, making modifications as necessary.

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers.

  • Solve technical problems and keeps current of new products and techniques.

  • Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance of OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Four years journey level experience in licensed trade discipline.

  • Two years supervisory and leadership experience.

  • Lighting Automation or Building Automation experience.

  • Critical Facilities or Data Center support experience.

  • Journey or Master level license in electrical, plumbing, or HVAC.

Selected candidates will be required to complete all required background checks and health screens prior to the first day of employment.

Compensation:

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $32.50 - $38.50/hr ($67,800 - $80,080/yr)

Physical Demands:

The employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks). The employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision and sense of smell.
