POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Program Director/Team Supervisor, Youth Prevention Coordinator serves as the point person for the Youth IMPACT Grant to disseminate staff training information and to direct questions regarding ongoing grant technical assistance, workplan and contract. The Youth Leadership Coordinator also implements the Youth IMPACT substance use environmental prevention work plan and activities as well as is responsible for collecting the data needed for program evaluation and/or as required by Elevate Youth CA – The Center at Sierra Health Foundation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Serve as the point person with contractor (SAPC PEP) regarding all contract-related issues and information, including, but not limited to, fiscal, HR, contract, training, programmatic and reporting questions and forward them to the appropriate PC and APFC personnel as appropriate
  • Coordinate and ensure that all SAPC PEP Program staff are informed of the technical assistance, training offered and/or required by contractor (SAPC PEP)
  • Serve as the Lead Youth Prevention Specialist in planning and implementing the SAPC PEP Youth Program community substance use prevention activities in the target API and Latinx communities
  • Assist Program Director/Team Supervisor and Program Evaluator in developing program evaluation and data collection plan
  • Complete all grant reports (including state and federal) in compliance with grant requirements in a timely manner in collaboration with Program Director/Team Supervisor

In addition to the specific coordination duties mentioned above, the Youth Prevention Coordinator will:

  • Coordinate youth leadership training on a weekly basis based on culturally rooted “trauma healing” model to address migration and generational trauma, identify formation, and internalized oppression issues with API and Latinx youth in target cities.
  • Conduct and coordinate Asian American Family Enhancement Network Bicultural Parenting Education Program (AAFEN B-PEP) with families
  • Implement the social norm changing activities to decrease favorable API and Latinx community attitudes toward underage and binge drinking, and youth cannabis access including the coordination of the activities of the “Safe & Sober Prevention Community Council” and the merchant education and training programs with cannabis dispensaries in the target API and Latinx communities.
  • Conduct small preventive workshop groups on alcohol and cannabis awareness and education with API and Latinx youth and parents in the target communities.
  • Provide “Safe & Sober” youth media awareness and counter advertising training to the youth in the target API and Latinx communities.
  • Provide high-risk API and Latinx youth in the target communities with case management services.
  • Plan and implement large scale and positive events, including, but not limited to, “San Gabriel Valley Youth Summit” and “Got Skills” substance-free events.
  • Coordinates and assists in the implementation of the substance abuse prevention initiatives of the “San Gabriel Valley Alcohol and Other Drugs Prevention & Policy Youth Council.”
  • Conduct outreach and educational activities to API and Latinx youth and families in the target communities on empowerment and activism based SAPC PEP youth leadership curriculum and to offer safe medication disposal resources.
  • Maintain secure, accurate and complete record-keeping system that documents the youth cannabis prevention activities as required by the SAPC PEP Program
  • Attend and participate in all relevant Community Prevention Council and other community substance abuse prevention efforts as part of community engagement.
  • Assist in building relationships with local schools, other community based organizations, youth groups, and youth-led organizations to drive efforts in capacity building
  • Collaborates with Therapists, Team Leaders, Team Supervisors, and Program Directors in assigned programs to facilitate the identification of youth and parents who are interested in and would benefit from Youth SAPC PEP and AAFEN B-PEP services.
  • Assist Program Evaluator and SAPC PEP in program data collection.
  • Complete all training, in-service and staff development requirements as set forth by Pacific Clinics and its’ contracting, licensing, and state requirements.
  • Reports to work on time and maintains reliable and regular attendance.
  • Models Pacific clinics’ approach, mission and core values in all communication and correspondence.
  • Communicates effectively with cultural humility and diverse consumer population and promotes favorable interaction with managers, co-workers and others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Initiate and maintain professional interactions and communication with Clinic’s employees and/or others.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE/POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited College or University in human services, substance abuse, or other similar field is required.

Certificate in Mental Health First Aid is highly preferred.

Experience:. Minimum Four (4) years of experience working with youth, young adults and parents in school, counseling, community organizing, delivery of conflict resolution, peer refusal and prosocial social skills and leadership development, and/or youth substance use prevention preferred.

Skills: Effective interactive workshop and small group presentation and communication (verbal, written, listening) skills; culturally informed community outreach and organization skills; creative problem solving ability; effective verbal and written communication skills, bilingual skills in API language (especially Chinese and/or Vietnamese) speaking and writing ability desired; basic knowledge of local public policies relative to cannabis; working knowledge of the strengthening families model and protective factors in youth substance use prevention; ability to demonstrate advocacy skills with youth and parents when appropriate; ability to be flexible and work in a changing environment; ability to work effectively with diverse youth and family and amongst a diverse staff.

Physical Demands: Ability to spend extended periods of time in standing/walking/sitting positions in outdoor and classroom environments. Ability to actively participate with clients in recreational activities.

Driving: Must possess a valid California driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record under the Clinics' liability policy.

Computer: Demonstrated ability to work in Windows environment (including, but not limited to, Word, PowerPoint and Excel).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand or sit. The employee is required to use hands to produce records and/or documentation in manual or electronic format. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally move or lift up to 10 pounds.
