The Youth Internship program, delivered via a hybrid model of in-person and on-line, is designed to introduce and enhance the knowledge and understanding of the connection between people and nature. This goal is accomplished while engaging in the work of conservation and community engagement primarily at the Indian Boundary Prairies and in the community specifically. As a previous intern, you will contribute to the general experience, compliance and participation of the interns. The Alumni Youth Mentor participates in the scheduled daily activities of the interns which includes focused outings and field trips, lectures, presentations, research, stewardship, and recreational activities.

Responsibilities and Scope

• Work responsibly with the interns as directed and assigned by the program coordinator or designee.
• Encourage consistent participation of the interns.
• Participate in the development of curriculum content
• Monitor the submission of assignments and responsibilities completed each week by the interns.
• Attend virtual and in-person sessions as scheduled. May work in variable weather conditions.
• Make sound and independent decisions during engagement with the interns based on their assigned responsibilities and expectations.
• Participate with the interns in the activities and responsibilities dictated by the curriculum and general programmatic activities.
• Comply with safety and group engagement rules and regulations.
• Requires physical exertion and/or muscular strain.

• High school student, 18 –20 yrs. of age
• A former Youth Environmental Thinker intern.
• Ability to take direction and collaborate with other staff.
• Ability to effectively engage with and respond to the leadership of the Program Coordinator, Program Assistant, and interactions with interns and staff in a respectful and professional manner.
• Experience working in and leading groups.
