What You Would Get To Do:

In this capacity, the ideal candidate would represent the FIRST brand as an implanted team member for a well-known technology company. The Video Systems Engineer will have a real passion for how technology can enhance productions. They will engage in the commissioning and the maintenance of the systems that drive the facility, with special focus on the management of the Video facilities, networks, near line storage and file-based workflows.


The role requires the ability to work effectively with many types of people within the AV and Events space, from large scale media companies to independents. We’re looking for an Video engineer with hands-on production experience who can provide technical support and guidance to events and conferences at all business levels. The role includes acting as a trainer for day-to-day operating staff and to become a reference for all video systems when questions and issues arise.


The role also requires flexibility to occasionally work outside of traditional office hours depending on demand and production requirements.


Your Contributions

  • Provide back-end support to the Event Technicians on productions in the events space
  • Setup and monitor facility routing between event spaces and main Control Rooms
  • Perform on-site maintenance on specialist equipment for event production and broadcast
  • Design, test, evaluate and install new circuitry/equipment for use in the facility
  • Analyse and repair technical faults on equipment beyond first line of troubleshooting
  • Manage client expectations on tech-related issues
  • Ensure that production equipment is running the latest stable versions of software/firmware to enable new features
  • Identify suitable workaround when equipment has failed to ensure continuity of the service
  • Interpret and implement instructions and requests from event production meetings in order to deliver the maximum capability the facility can offer
  • Help enhance the user experience utilising available engineering resources
  • Produce and update technical documentation
  • Keep up-to-date with the industry and changes in technology by building and maintaining a network of contacts and investigating new systems and techniques
  • Be able to travel between sites or assist remotely in order to perform break/fix and maintenance duties
  • Act as a teacher and mentor to a staff of event techs and ops.
  • Develop and apply remote access and workflows in the event of catastrophic closures

  • 7+ years’ professional experience
  • 3+ years’ experience in digital production/broadcast facilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required
    • Preferably in a tech-related field
  • Firm grasp of video switching for broadcast and screens applications. Familiarity with MEs, PiPs, Aux busses, DVEs, Keyers and their applications.
  • Theory and application for reference formats, burst vs tri level sync. Ability to read a waveform vectorscope.
  • Knowledge of video formats from SD to HD as well as framerates.
  • Knowledge of signal flow in regards to router and patch bay infrastructure.
  • Experience working with some or all of the following product lines, Ross, ProXi, Adder KVM, Qlabs, Playback Pro, Everts Microsystems, Aja, Sony, Analogway, Blackmagic Designs, Leader, Tektronix, Ventuz, Telemetrics, EEG iCap,
  • Work closely with others to maintain the overall health of adjacent and dependent systems
  • Camera shading and control. The ability to color match cameras and work with LD to achieve consistent lighting to create a broadcast level product.
  • Extensive experience in electronic engineering and use of high level Video equipment
  • Ability to apply digital and analogue theory and work from diagrammatic information
  • Ability to work across all event production and broadcast studio operations
  • Deep understanding of front line maintenance and diagnostics on networked environments
  • Excellent face to face communication as well as written skills
  • Ability to read, understand, and write technical documentation, AutoCAD (or equivalent) skills would be beneficial
  • Excellent analytical/troubleshooting practices and attention to detail
  • In depth understanding of TCP/IP networking
  • Ability to take a service-oriented approach to this position, with a desire to help clients achieve their best result
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure in an “On-Air” environment
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize critical elements in the workflow
  • Ability to work well within a team

  • Assume responsibility for own environment, ensuring adherence to health and safety policies while having clean smart surroundings
  • Work intelligently and ensure that team management is aware of problems or issues which negatively affect productivity
  • Build excellent relations with the team, clients, vendors, and key venues through positive communications
  • Ensure knowledge is shared within the team to enable them to work smarter
  • Work on ad hoc requests as required, typically during quiet times

United States Residents: The base pay for this position ranges from $85,000 to $105,000. This role is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
