Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Rail Vehicle Electrical Engineer to join our North American Infrastructure group in our Vehicle Electrical Engineering group in our Greenbelt, MD office.

Candidates must have 12 or more years of engineering experience in the rail industry.


As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Hands-on engineering work with the subway and Light Rail trains in the Washington, DC area and elsewhere, including:


o Develop technical specifications for the new and upgraded train equipment and systems and review designs.

o Work on various aspects of integration between the rail transit vehicles and wayside systems including power distribution, signaling, communications and data transfer.

o Participate in the new equipment qualification efforts at supplier facilities including functional testing, electrical performance, environmental, and electromagnetic compatibility.

o Lead investigations into systemic equipment failures, identify root causes and develop remedies including changes to the maintenance practices, equipment updates, and modifications.

o Perform equipment First Article and Pre-shipment inspections at supplier facilities.

o Mentor junior staff and oversee their work.


You bring to the role:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • A minimum of 12 years of professional experience in the rail vehicle design, manufacture, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of rail transit industry, broad understanding of rail transit vehicle electrical systems and interfaces.
  • Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team.


The following skills/experience are a plus:

  • Exposure to design and maintenance service for the aircraft, marine vessels, off-highway vehicles, heavy construction machinery or equivalent complex computerized electro-mechanical systems are a plus.
  • EIT/PE is desirable but not required.


Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
