Position Summary:

Get involved with Upward Bound through the Summer Program from May 15th through June 30th as a Summer Instructor. Upward Bound works to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. We are seeking a talented and experienced educator to join our team. Summer Instructors will be responsible for teaching and inspiring high school students from Rural and Interior Alaska to explore the exciting world of technology through hands-on activities, group projects, and interactive lessons. Upward Bound Summer Instructors will play a crucial role in creating a fun and safe learning environment and helping students develop their technology and communication abilities.

Duties:

100Design and lead engaging and interactive activities for students. Co-design and facilitate a one week long field trip to Anchorage, Valdez, Kotzebue, Juneau, or Denali. Collaborate with program staff, instructors, college mentors, and community members to facilitate a problem-based learning framework. Provide individualized instruction and guidance to students to help them reach their full potential. Encourage the development of students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Assist with set-up before and clean-up after activities. Attend and participate in all meetings and training sessions. Be a positive and supportive role model for students while maintaining a safe learning environment.Essential
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledgeable about how T3 Alliance technologies (including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNCs, RPi systems, drones, videography equipment) can be integrated into projects.
Flexible to changes in a dynamic workplace environment.
Strong knowledge and experience in the field of technology and problem-based learning.
Ability to effectively communicate complex technology concepts to students.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work well in a team environment.
Comfortable working in the outdoors on day trips and overnight field trips including camping
Current CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification before the program starts.
Clean driving record and ability to drive to transport equipment and supplies. If over 21, willingness to transport students in UA vehicles.

Typical Experience:
Some experience related to coaching, teaching, growth mindset, computer science and technology is preferred. Experience working with minors in a camp or educational setting is preferred.

Completion of the following UAF Employee E-Learning Trainings:
FERPA: Protecting Student Privacy
Protection of Minors
First Aid and CPR
UA Drivers Training
Title IX
Attend Instructor Training Event prior to program start. Date will be determined after hire.



Salary Information:

This is a full-time, exempt temporary adjunct non credit position for the summer of 2023. A bi-weekly stipend of $2,333.00, plus housing and food provided.
