Purpose of the Position:
The University Registrar for The University of Alabama in Huntsville is expected to be a skilled communicator, effective manager, and collaborator. They must be committed to enhancing the student and campus stakeholder experience through the leadership and development of effective, efficient and innovative approaches to the management of student academic records and curricular functions. They must also maintain the highest level of customer service expectations. This key leader is responsible for understanding both the needs of campus constituents including students, faculty, and external constituents such as The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Commission on Higher Education, and the State Approving Agency, while building strategic and collaborative working relationships with these groups. The University Registrar is expected to lead in matters of diversity, equity, and inclusion with a spirit of humanity, generosity, and empathy.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of years and experience
  • Serves as the University official responsible for the creation, maintenance and certification of all student records and ensures that business processes and associated training and documentation result in accurate and complete collection of data.
  • Builds secure student data files; leads policy and procedures development and recommendations; manages efficient use of classrooms, supervises and maintains the registration, withdrawal and degree audit system.
  • Supervises the residency process, grade processing, degree verification, evaluation and production of student transcripts, diplomas, and commencement ceremonies.
  • Certifies eligibility for NCAA athletes.
  • Responsible for building strategic and highly collaborative working relationships with University leaders and key stakeholders.
  • Serves as primary liaison to the Office of Information Technology in support of the student information system (Banner), curriculum management (Kuali CM), forms and workflow (Kuali Build) and additional key records and service systems.
  • Develops and implements short and long-term strategies that meet the goals of the unit in alignment with the University's priorities and mission.
  • Oversees the implementation of strategies and measures effectiveness on an ongoing basis.
  • Identifies, recommends and leads initiatives in support of technological and operational enhancements which are designed to transform the student experience, innovate processing systems and secure data integrity.
  • Maintains the highest standards of customer service expectations, accuracy, integrity, security and compliance while delivering upon the UAH experience for students, faculty, alumni and other University stakeholders in transformative, efficient, effective and engaging ways.
  • Oversight and leadership in implementation and compliance of the University's policies and protocol and applicable federal and state law and regulations, including the Family Education Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Provides oversight and management of daily operations in the Office of the Registrar.
  • Evaluates and manages team's core functional efforts, proactively addressing work flow design, work distribution and/or staff performance.
  • Coaches, mentors, and assists with individual team members' goal development and supports professional development for the unit as a whole as well as for individual team members.
  • Fosters an environment of collaboration supporting seamless integration of operations within the University.
  • Ensures efficiency and effectiveness in all operations of the Office of the Registrar.
  • Collaborates with the Provost to manage the budget, ensure fiscal compliance, acquires materials, resources, supplies, services, etc.
  • Prepares annual budget request and justification for the Office of the Registrar.


Minimum Requirements:


  • 5 - 7 years of progressive responsibility and demonstrated leadership experience in the successful management and administration of a comprehensive registrar's office that is leading industry innovation and student experience transformation.
  • Registrar, Senior Associate Registrar or Associate Registrar or equivalent in a college or university registrar unit.
  • A minimum of 5 years supervisory experience.
  • Understanding of current issues and innovative trends in Registrar operations.
  • In-depth understanding of complex organizations, policies, process and systems supporting student-centered and/or customer-centered operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in change management.
  • Demonstrated experience in building collaborative relationships across all campus stakeholders.
  • Experience in leading systems implementation and integration efforts.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability in leadership of teams and programs with a strong service orientation working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators and College and University leaders.
  • Demonstrated skills in change management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, coach, mentor and grow leaders within the organization.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide vision and leadership for management of complex operations and systems, specifically the student information system, degree audit system and document imaging system.
  • Ability to adapt to and lead change through effective leadership of new initiatives by creating a culture of communication, collaboration, and commitment to policy and process improvements.
  • Ability to lead ongoing process analysis and improvements related to technology and customer service.


Desired Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university is
preferred
  • Experience with statistical analysis is desired
  • Experience with Banner student information system and Banner Document Management system is preferred
  • Active participation in state and national Admissions/Registrar stakeholder organizations is desired
