OrthoIndy Hospital South, located in Greenwood, Indiana, provides outpatient care and inpatient care, with four operating rooms and a 15-bed inpatient unit for patients undergoing more invasive procedures, such as disc replacement, spinal fusion or total hip and knee joint replacement. Other services include an urgent care, clinics, imaging and physical therapy.

General Statement of Duties:

The Unit Secretary performs a variety of tasks related to nursing and clerical duties for the Perioperative Services areas. The Unit Secretary receives direction from physicians and other professional personnel.

Essential Duties:

  • Acts as receptionist, receive new patients, direct visitors, provide patient information to medical staff.
  • Maintains and orders unit supplies necessary for efficient, safe unit operation. Stocks supplies on unit and checks expiration dates.
  • Appropriately and accurately utilizes telephone and communication systems to relay messages in a prompt and accurate manner.
  • Able to use different forms of communication such as nurse call system, telephone and computer.
  • Maintains understanding of scheduling with regard to various procedures.
  • Supports physician’s unit based clerical needs, including but not limited to: takes messages, obtains test results, etc.
  • Transports patients upon dismissal, as necessary.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to biomedical and maintenance departments.
  • Transports specimens to lab as needed.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; specialty training beyond high school preferred
  • No prior experience required; 1-2 years of experience preferred
  • CPR BLS certification required
