POSITION SUMMARY:

The Unit Secretary position requires the performance of a variety of duties ranging from indirect patient care to clerical functions, to computer skills and to routine stocking of unit supplies necessary for the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation. The primary goal is to present a friendly, helpful approach to all clients. The Unit Secretary is an excellent role to be the primary patient advocate/customer service representatives for the unit.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Clerical coursework/training or Associate's Degree, preferred.
2 years of clerical experience in an acute care hospital, preferred.

POSITION DUTIES:

Facilitates and maintains a safe environment for patients and others. Performs the priority technical procedures required by the area/department/assignment safely, effectively, efficiently, and legally. Including, but not limited to: transcribing orders; initiating, assembling, and maintaining charts; and receptionist duties.

Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to identify actions to insure orderly operation of the unit and improve patient care: Demonstrates care and concern for customers by striving to meet their expectations. Follows HIPAA guidelines. Seeks supervision or assistance when unable to independently perform effectively or safely.

Uses interpersonal-communication strategies with individuals that are intended to achieve desirable/acceptable outcomes/responses and perceptions of satisfaction by those involved. Enters supply room(s) on nursing units as needed to perform necessary job functions. Refrains from manipulating or removing any intravenous fluids that are stored in the area.

Contributes to continuity of patient care: Complies with established hospital/departmental/personnel policies. Documents consistent with established guidelines.
