To perform functions and duties related to a Pilot in Command and/or Second in Command.

The Pilot-in-Command (PIC) or a Second-in-Command (SIC) has responsibility for the flight crew, passengers, cargo, the safe conduct of the flight, and provides guidance and coordinates activities of every individual connected with all phases of the aircraft operation. The PIC/SIC adheres to proper Cockpit Resource Management (CRM) techniques. The PIC reports to the Chief Pilot and indirectly to the Program Manager.

Note: Must be fluent in English.


Essential Functions:

  • Mission Planning, pre-flight and post flight briefing, aircraft pre-flight and post flight, safe operation of aircraft and mission execution, direct activities and insure proper use of CRM among crew members.
  • Ensure the assigned aircraft is airworthy with proper documents on board and is properly equipped for the mission in accordance with (IWA) Defense Contract Management Agency rules.
  • Make decisions to the start, delay, cancellation of flight or deviation from planned mission when operating conditions dictate.
  • Prepare or supervise all flight plan considerations, including but not limited to, weather, performance, appropriate flight level, appropriate fueling, airport facilities, and navigational aids and flight following procedures are followed.
  • Ensure the aircraft weight and balance form/manifest is properly completed, signed, and distributed.
  • Promptly report any known or suspected FAA violations or incidents to the Chief Pilot and Program Manager.
  • Ensure crew members and passengers are properly brief on proposed flight and emergency equipment usage and procedures.
  • Ensure all maintenance write-ups are coordinated with and passed on to the maintenance personnel and that Flight Operations is alerted to the current status of the aircraft.
  • Ensure appropriate communications with Operations in a timely and efficient method.
  • Thoroughly knowledgeable in the FAA and Defense Contract Management Agency regulations, Operations Specifications, and any other related flight duty activities.
  • Able to interact with customer to ensure their needs are being addressed and be ready to solve problems as they arise with a friendly and helpful demeanor.


Qualifications:

  • FAA issued Airline Transport Pilot Certificate or Commercial Pilot Certificate, with Instrument Rating with Multi Engine rating.
  • The PIC will have 200 hours of PIC time in a Twin Otter
  • The PIC shall have at least 1,500 hours total pilot time experience, of which 250 hours are at night and 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument time with at least 50 hours in actual instrument flight conditions (14 CFR 61.159).
  • The SIC shall have at least 750 hours total pilot time experience, of which 100 hours are at night and 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument time with at least 50 hours in actual instrument flight conditions (14 CFR 61.159).
  • The PIC and SIC shall both meet the PIC recent experience requirements of 14 CFR 61.57 regardless of whether passengers are carried on the aircraft or what crewmember position they are assigned.
  • PIC and SIC shall have current Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) rating.
  • PIC and SIC shall be Instrument and landing current in a multi-engine aircraft
  • No more than 50 hours in an FAA Category C or D simulator may be used for required flight time
  • All pilots shall maintain a valid FAA Second Class Medical Certificate
  • Valid US Passport
  • Current Flight Review in accordance with FAA guidelines
  • Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance


Preferred:

  • Twin Otter Pilot
  • 200 hours of Twin Otter PIC time.
  • Flight Test experience in single or multi-engine aircraft
  • Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) experience
  • Knowledge of Flight Test briefings, Test Cards, and Flight Test Profiles
