The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a motivated individual to serve as a Transportation Engineer 2 (TE2) in Union Gap, WA. This position provides support to the region and public by maintaining and managing the Region engineering records; printing and coordinating the distribution of contract plans for the region; maintaining and scheduling service for several reproduction machines and acting as the Region Public Disclosure Contact. Data and information are valuable agency resources whose management is critical to the success of the department’s mission.

What to Expect
This position includes working in an office and a warehouse around multiple shelves with boxes and map rolls; requires climbing ladders, working around forklifts, and moving record boxes and equipment.

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Transportation Engineer 2 will:


  • Collect, organize, maintain, research, and provide information and access to engineering records, right of way plans, previous contracts, easements, pits and stockpile information.
  • Operating, maintaining and schedule service to production machines such printers, plotters, binders. Coordinate the printing and distribution of contract plans, addendum, and other region documents in the South-Central Region.
  • Process public disclosure requests.

Qualifications
At minimum, this position requires at least one the following:
  • Certification as an Engineer-In-Training and one (1) year of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1, Transportation Technician 3, Bridge Engineer 1 or equivalent.
OR
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1, Transportation Technician 3, Bridge Engineer 1 or equivalent.
OR
  • A Master's degree with major study in civil engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, traffic, transportation, or a closely related field.
  • A valid Driver's License.

In addition to one of the above, the following are also required:
  • The ability to read, interpret and review complex engineering drawings, specifications, land use proposals for conformance with policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail to ensure work is completed with few to no errors.
  • Proven experience in managing multiple tasks simultaneously under challenging deadlines.
  • Skills to communicate effectively with diverse groups utilizing oral, written, and electronic communication methods.
  • Have well rounded broad experience with prior exposure to real estate services, planning utilities, agreements, design, construction, traffic, or program management.
  • Have a strong commitment to advancing the policy goals of WSDOT.
  • Have a strong commitment to embrace continuous process improvement.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
  • The ability to provide support to regional personnel and the public by researching and supplying information from Right of Way Plans, previous contracts, easements, pit and stockpile site information, USGS benchmarks, approved intersection and interchange plans, deed and aerial photography.
  • Knowledge of contract administration.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work safely with supervisors, co-workers, and customers.

Important Notes
  • Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 357-16-197 mandates that all employees who work for executive cabinet agencies (which includes the Department of Transportation) must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
