JOB DESCRIPTION


The Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency is seeking to fill Pre-Employment Specialist positions in the following offices:


  • Thomasville

Interested candidates must be willing and able to work at either one of the offices listed above. Office preference of candidates will be considered but is not guaranteed. The posting may be closed upon establishment of a sufficient pool of candidates.


Summary/Objective

Under general supervision, provides pre-employment transition services to students with disabilities. Coordinates and tracks potentially eligible students identified by the local education agency and/or counselor who could benefit from pre-employment transition services. Provides the five pre-employment transition services to students. Works collaboratively with the rehabilitation team.


Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


  • Provides pre-employment assessments of job skills to determine individual needs.
  • Develops and delivers workplace readiness training to individuals or groups of potentially eligible students
  • Provides instruction and/or guidance to deliver services, such as self-advocacy, job exploration, and counseling on post-secondary opportunities.
  • Develops or coordinates the development of work based learning opportunities in the community.
  • Assist and supports other rehabilitation professionals in service provision and coordination.
  • Documents accurately and timely in the client information system.
  • Travel within caseload assignment area to meet with individuals, providers, partners and other outreach.
  • Observes rules of confidentiality as stated by departmental guidelines in the dissemination and interpretation of test results and other case file information.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift

and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position may occasionally require long hours and weekend work.


Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.


Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in business management, business administration, or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university OR High school diploma or GED AND Three years of experience providing education, social or direct care services to persons with diagnosed special needs or other populations OR Two years of experience at the lower level Training/Employment Tech 2 (SST051) or position equivalent.


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associate’s Degree in Rehabilitation and Disabilities Studies or related field (Psychology, Sociology, Social Services, Education, Special Education, etc.)
  • Two years of experience providing educational, social, or direct care services to persons with diagnosed special needs or other populations.
  • One or more years of experience in preparing and/or delivering training initiatives to stakeholders.

Provides assistance, counsel and information to workers, clients/consumers on all aspects of employment search and career planning. Provides job readiness training to individuals and/or groups. Provides specialized employment and career counseling services. Secures job placement for consumers/clients in the community
