Emerson College's Office of the Arts is seeking personable and responsible Box Office Ticket Representatives for part-time employment in downtown Boston's Theatre District. We are looking for applicants who are welcoming, proactive, accountable, and comfortable interfacing with the public and within a team, both in a fast-paced environment and in quieter office settings. This is an entry-level box office position with opportunity for growth into other higher level part-time box positions. Come learn the inner workings of a non-profit, professional arts organization that presents international theatre in Boston and supports student and community productions.

Ticket representatives can generally expect to work a minimum of 6 hours per week and, on rare occasion, a maximum of 20 hours per week. Hours are dependent on event schedule and individual availability. There is some flexibility as we try our best to accommodate individual scheduling needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Sell tickets and season packages and take donations over the phone and in-person using AudienceView ticketing software
  • Distribute tickets before performances
  • Participate in the box office's internal equity, diversity, and inclusion learning and projects to contribute to a more anti-racist workplace and theater experience
  • Execute administrative box office tasks such as ticket mailings and online database cleanup
  • Answer patron questions and concerns over the phone, via email, and in person
  • Stay informed of our programming and policies and be comfortable talking about them with patrons and colleague
  • Be responsible for handling sensitive financial information, multiple payment forms (credit cards, cash, checks), and confidential patron data
  • Assist full-time staff with long-term projects to continuously improve our box office work culture and our patron experience
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS - Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.
  • Customer service: 1 year preferred
  • Basic phone skills including answering/transferring calls, listening to voicemails, and making outbound calls as needed.
  • Previous box office, theater, or ticketing software experience
  • Nearly all aspects of this position require the use of a computer: basic computer skills including email communication, browser and folder navigation, window management, and typing are essential and required.

  • Interest in theater, film, live music, or other artforms
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Zoom

WORK ENVIRONMENT - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
  • Desks and chairs are higher than average due to positioning at Box Office windows
  • The box office, especially at the Majestic Theatre, can be a crowded space during event shifts

COMPENSATION

This is a part time position paying $15 per hour.

Grade of Position: T01N

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 8.00
