This work unit exists to serve the needs of the public and to preserve, protect, develop and maximize the beneficial use of the State’s present and future water supplies through the distribution of native and non- native waters according to the laws of the State of Colorado, the policies and regulations of the State Engineer and the terms and conditions of judicial decrees pertaining to the diversion, storage and use of water.

Description of Job

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
This is a full time 3-4 month seasonal position beginning on May 1, 2023 (start and end date may be negotiable).

Duties:

Program Administration: Answer phone. Provide information and assistance to water users and the general public, or direct them to the proper source. General office cleaning duties. Scanning documents for inclusion in records. Preparing mailings and notices as required. May assist with transporting materials and supplies. Other duties as assigned.

Well Metering: Perform data entry of well metering information and data into the computer.
Update well metering files, processing, filing and making copies of forms. Assisting
Well Metering Technicians in researching well information.

Hydrography: Cleaning and light maintenance of equipment. Spraying weeds, mowing, trimming, painting, cleaning and general up-keep on stream gaging stations. Assist Hydrographers in their duties including stream flow measurement, shooting levels for stream gage calibration and data entry.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SUBSTITUTIONS, CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & APPEAL RIGHTS:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 16 years or older
  • Must have a valid Colorado drivers’ license or reliable transportation.
  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills (written and oral).
  • Ability to work with little supervision and work within a team.
  • Computer experience is helpful (MS Office Suite, Google App Suite).
  • Experience working with the public is helpful.
  • Hours: Up to 40 hours per week.
  • This position is Monday thru Friday, either 7:00 am or 8:00 am to 5:00 pm depending on the day’s duties.
  • Willing to work outside which may involve inclement weather.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly during the course of a single workday.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position may perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials. This position may also perform repetitive actions related to data entry and filing.

WORK CONTEXT:
This position may perform work outdoors that may include exposure to inclement weather, heat, cold, rain, etc. Walking or hiking may be required when accessing roadless or remote areas. Standing is common in the field. Almost every field related activity requires using your hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Bites, minor cuts and stings are a regular occurrence when working outdoors. May be exposed to weed killing chemicals. This position may also perform work indoors that may include repetitive motions, long periods of standing or sitting and possible exposure to cleaning chemicals.
