The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is to create a model correctional system that provides equitable access to programming and opportunities that reflect a community experience, foster connections, and restore victims of crime.

The Idaho Department of Correction is currently recruiting for a Technical Records Specialist 1. This position supports the warden and members of the management team. This announcement is for the Idaho Correctional Institution - Orofino in Orofino, Idaho.

If you have previously applied for the position of Technical Records Specialist 1 you must reapply under this announcement. Previous scores will not be used. Hiring lists may be created from IDOC Department Promotional applicants. The applications may also be used for future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months.

Example of Duties

  • Gather information, make decisions, resolve problems, and respond to inquiries
  • Utilize independent judgment and discretion as to the methods, policies, and procedures used to complete assignments
  • Conduct involved searches, which may require accessing and selecting multiple information sources or contact with clients, vendors, or outside sources to obtain information
  • Perform specialized support work that involves an extensive in-depth knowledge of the program
  • Review, evaluate, approve, and process records and/or documents
  • Determine acceptability or conformance to eligibility requirements according to rules, regulations, statutes, and program policies and procedures
  • Explain requirements, processes, and procedures to customers
  • Manipulate and update manual and/or computerized records systems; and develop reports

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: monitoring a records system to identify and correct errors
  • Researching a variety of sources to resolve problems
  • Interpreting, explaining and applying regulations, laws, or complex policies to carry out assignments
  • Entering and retrieving data using a computerized records system.

  • Willing to work in a correctional institution

HIRING INFORMATION:

To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department mission goals and will be subject to:

  • Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug testing
  • Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints
  • Having a history of law-abiding behavior
  • Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUI's, adverse driving convictions and employment history may make you ineligible for employment
Non-hiring restrictions are in place for candidates who:
  • Have been convicted of Domestic Violence or similar types of violent behaviors
  • Have a dishonorable discharge from military service
  • Currently are using, dealing or are associated with illegal drugs
  • Have close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody where the vacancy exists
  • Are currently under IDOC supervision or probation (must be released from IDOC supervision or probation for at least one year)
