This position is a member of our Critical Infrastructure Division (CID).


WHAT YOU WILL DO

As a part of the division’s CID team, our Assistant Deputy Director will play a key role in achieving TCEQ’s mission. You would use your skills and experience to:

  • Manage daily activities and operations related to the administration and business support of the division. Review and approve reports, budgets, contracts, purchases, memos, employee time, computer access requests and general correspondence.
  • Complete and oversee completion of personnel management functions, including interviewing, hiring, and developing staff, and performance management. Plan and coordinate staff activities; schedule, monitor, and coordinate work plans.
  • Establish goals and objectives; and develop guidelines, procedures, and policies regarding the division. Provide guidance to staff regarding development and interpretation of procedures.
  • Represent the Division in meetings and public functions to provide information and promote coordination with all customers.
  • Participate in evaluating new initiatives (federal or state) and proposed legislation as it impacts Division and agency operations. Contribute to the agency strategic planning process.
  • Coordinate, participate in, and lead projects and assignments as assigned by the Director; assign staff projects/tasks; coordinate with other agency divisions and programs; review work products; determine deficiencies and facilitating resolution; research and gather information on specific issues; and provide advice, guidance, and support on proposed courses of action.
Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in a field relevant to assignment.

OR


  • Experience in the management of a business function, division, or department to include professional management experience where primary duties consists of planning organizing, controlling, and directing the work of an organization or formal subdivision, or team.

OR


  • Experience as a special assistant to a TCEQ director or deputy director developing management policies and directing/evaluating operations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with legislative bills review/ analyses, interpreting rules, regulations, policies, or procedures.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Director III state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Director III series.
