The Switch Crew position is essential to the operations of the St. Gabriel site. This position works with other switch crew and loading team members to plan and execute movements of railcars to be loaded, unloaded, and shipped. They interact with the CN railroad, spot and weigh tank cars and unload raw products for the Process Unit. Commitment to safety required, as well as ensuring compliance with DOT regulations.

  • Comply with 100% safety, DOT and FRA regulations, environmental, quality, and security performance.
  • Ensure plant equipment, storage tracks and rail switches are properly lined up, controlled, and monitored for safe and efficient operations.
  • Responsible for the loading and unloading of raw materials which is Alcohol (Acetone and Ethanol), and finished products which will be Amines (Highers and Specialty), from both tank cars and tank trucks.
  • Perform minor maintenance.
  • Perform equipment cleaning and inspections.
  • Initiate work permits to ensure safety/efficiency of plant equipment.
  • Active participation and compliance with site Total Safety Process
  • Perform facility maintenance/housekeeping duties as assigned
  • Maintain accurate logs and update switch list and track reports.
  • Skills and Physical Requirements
  • Must have the ability to work in all types of conditions, including but not limited to working in the rail yard, working on railcars, and working in all weather conditions
  • Ability to serve on emergency response team/fire brigade
  • Ability to learn and qualify in multiple Loading unit processes
  • Flexibility to work rotating 12 hour shifts, weekends, holidays, and call-outs
  • Climbing: Frequently. Ascending or descending stairs, stacks and ladders on a daily basis.
  • Stooping/Kneeling/Crouching: Frequently. To pick up parts or equipment.
  • Standing/Walking: Continually. Within the manufacturing plant as well as rail storage track.
  • Reaching: Frequently. To retrieve supplies, parts and equipment.
  • Pushing/Pulling/Lifting: Continually. To move items within the manufacturing. Lifting devices are used for items weighing over 50 pounds.
  • Grasping: Continually. To gather supplies or to compile and assemble paperwork.
  • Repetitive Motions of the hands/wrists/fingers: Frequently. To enter or retrieve data from the computer or to use tools, supplies and equipment.
  • Work in confined spaces
  • Pass a Physical/Respirator Fit Test
  • Sitting: Rarely

EDUCATION:
High School diploma or GED required; Process Technology degree or certification highly recommended
