Performs a variety of direct and indirect care services including preparing for procedure and treatment under the
supervision of a Registered Nurse, assisting patients with personal care needs, and documenting care. This role also
performs clerical duties for their department to facilitate effective and efficient delivery of care by department staff.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Performs delegated duties as a “scrubbed” member of the team.
  • Prepare and carry out treatments as instructed by RN, such as perineal care. Accurately obtains vital signs and reports
    abnormal results to nurse. Use scales with proficiency and places patients on monitor.
  • Assists with providing for the physical comfort and safety of patients (i.e. bath and linen changes, dietary intake, and
    other necessary treatments). Ensures security of patient’s personal items and reports discrepancies to supervisor in a
    timely fashion.
  • Assists with admission, discharge, and transferring of patients. Updates hospital tracking system to reflect patient
    transfer.
  • Consistently determines that all patient chart identification is correct and that all consent forms are signed.
    Schedules operative procedures and outpatient testing in scheduling book. Registers the patient and ensures that that patient chart information is present in chart.
  • Follows the established protocol for obtaining, charging for, and returning supplies/equipment and maintains adequate supply levels through the use of accurate inventory control.
  • Answers intercom, call system and telephone and promptly relays messages as necessary. Initiates calls.
  • Assures safety of the unit by verifying and managing individuals including guests/family who enter the unit by use of sign in, ID check, etc.

Experience

  • 1-year Surgical Tech experience OR Successful completion of Surgical Tech program.
  • Experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Certificates/Licenses/Registration

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

    Preferred: Certified Scrub Technician.
    Post Employment: BLS, provided by the American Heart Association (AHA), required within 30 days of hire.
