Position Summary:

The Surgery Scheduler/Patient Navigator is a hybrid role that combines detail-oriented surgery scheduling with exceptional patient service. This role will support our patients through the entire surgical process from beginning to end, including scheduling surgery, insurance authorization, and patient outreach and education. The goal of the Surgery Scheduler/Patient Navigator is to ensure a seamless and comforting experience for patients.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of healthcare scheduling experience preferred.
  • One year of medical office experience preferred.
  • Direct customer service experience preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
  • Ability to excel in a team-based environment.
  • Possesses a creative, process-oriented mindset.
  • High proficiency in general medical office procedures, including HIPAA regulations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

To be successful in this position, individuals must be able to meet and perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Works with surgeons to identify surgical needs and schedule surgeries.
  • Coordinates patient, surgeon, and hospital/surgical center schedules.
  • Contacts insurance carriers to verify benefits and requests and secures necessary authorizations.
  • Determines the need for pre-op testing and facilitates as needed.
  • Frequently provides clear, concise, and relevant information to patients through the surgical process, including pre-op and post-op.
  • Reaches out to patients at designated intervals prior to surgery to answer questions and ensure upcoming surgery preparedness. Assists with any surgery-related patient needs as the main point of contact.
  • Follows up with patients at discharge and schedules any necessary follow-up appointments.
  • Demonstrates the use of medical terminology and general medical office procedures, including HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintains a high level of productivity.
  • Clearly documents all communication with providers and patients.
  • Other duties as assigned.
