Summary

The Cleaning Room Superintendent is responsible for providing leadership, support and guidance for shop employees. Managing all Cleaning Room and Heat Treat operations along with the overall responsibility for safety, quality, productivity and inventory in this area.

You will serve as a proactive member of the management team; providing input on decisions that affect the overall facility operation, while fostering a workplace environment consistent with values and mission outlined by Southwest Steel Casting Company and The Greenbrier Companies, Inc. leadership team.

Duties And Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Ensure effective employee relations and provides employee coaching and development.
  • Balance quality, productivity, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all areas.
  • Manages departmental performance measures, including visual controls
  • Maintains departmental, International Organization for Standardization 9001 (ISO) and Association of American Railroads (AAR) M-1003

Qualifications

The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience in supervision, including managing hourly associates and conducting performance reviews and corrective actions
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite for reporting and communications
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve quality problems
  • Ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing with customers, employees and colleagues
  • Proficient in standard safety processes and procedures in a manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lean/ 5S training
  • Previous “Collective Bargaining Unit” experience
  • Associate's degree in “Applied Science” or 3 years experience in leading a production team, with strong knowledge of welding processes such as SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) and FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding)
