POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
We are hiring at the following locations:
- Corrigan Correctional Center in Montville, CT
- New Haven Correctional Center in New Haven, CT
- Plan, organize and direct the overall nursing services operations for the state correctional facility;
- Plan, assign and direct the work of nursing staff;
- Develop and implement nursing policies and procedures to ensure effective compliance with all physical and mental health nursing standards and operating procedures;
- Act as a liaison for the Director of Nursing Services at the facility level for all mental and physical health nursing services at each facility;
- Participate in governance, managerial, medical staff and other clinical leaders in decision making structures and processes of the CT DOC Health Services Unit.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Plans, organizes, and directs the overall nursing services operations for a State correctional facility;
- Plans, assigns, and directs the work of nursing staff;
- Ensures nursing duties are assigned within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act;
- Ensures the qualifications and current licensure of nursing staff on an on-going basis;
- Ensures sufficient number of qualified nursing staff are on duty to provide adequate patient care;
- Ensures the provision of quality nursing care including audits and quality reviews;
- Develops and implements nursing services policies and procedures;
- Implements nursing policies/procedures to insure effective compliance with all physical and mental health nursing standards and operating procedures;
- Instructs staff regarding completion and adherence to SOPs;
- Facilitates Medical/Security interface to ensure compliance with SOPs;
- Acts as a liaison for the Director of Nursing Services at the facility level for all mental and physical health nursing services at each facility;
- Participate with governance, managerial, medical staff and other clinical leaders in decision making structures and processes of the CT DOC HSU;
- Review any nursing related compliance/incident reports, trends or summaries on a monthly basis or as reported;
- Travel to any CT Department of Corrections facility to assist with orientation, training, evaluation and corrective action associated with clinical or administrative nursing issues, program reviews, accreditation reviews or other internal or external reviews as identified by CT DOC HSU management;
- Provide oversight/management of nursing programs, policies or procedures;
- Validating the patient care delivery models ensuring clinical and staffing standards for mental and physical health nursing practice that are consistent with current evidence-based research and professional standards to align with the mission, vision and values of the organization;
- Ensure continuity and standardization of mental and physical health nursing care across the organization.

2. A Master's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working as a supervisor;
- Experience in an emergency room environment;
- Experience in a medical surgery environment;
- Experience in a forensic or correctional environment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
2. Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a current license or temporary permit as a Registered Professional Nurse in Connecticut.
3. Incumbents in this class may be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the use of the American Sign Language in certain designated positions.
4. Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
5. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
