THE POSITION

Are you a teacher or college student looking for summer employment? Do you want to spend your summer ensuring children in your area have access to meals? If so, the Department of Education’s Summer Food Service Program is looking for you! These positions conduct monitoring visits of summer food service sites to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Employees collect statistical data and complete assessment reports regarding the operation of the sites.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This is complex work in a regional Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) office, assisting a Summer Meals Regional Coordinator with work assignments to ensure ensuring compliance and consistency with summer food service federal program regulations, policies, and procedures.

An employee in this position serves as a lead worker to ensure compliance of summer food program laws and regulations, policies, and procedures. Work involves the application of independent judgment to make assessments of sponsor’s programs, to ascertain facts, obtain data, report violations of state and federal regulations and policies, and ensure compliance with program laws and regulations. Work also involves complicated work processes or activities when evaluating program operations, by making choices between the procedure to be followed, and determining the appropriateness of the information that is presented for further processing, making independent decisions concerning the process to be followed, and the actions to be taken. Work includes conducting sponsor site and administrative reviews and providing training and guidance to SFSP sponsors. Work involves providing training and guidance to SFSP staff and functioning as a lead worker for moderately complex operations. Work schedules and priorities are subject to staff changes due to external influences, time frame constraints, or self-imposed priority changes.

Assignments are carried out under the supervision of the SFSP Regional Coordinator and performed with independence; however, changes in operational standards, procedures, work policies, and situations that are questionable are discussed in detail with the supervisor prior to implementation/resolution. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, reports, and evaluation of results.


Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Seasonal, Full-time employment.
  • Employee is Temporary Full-Time from May through the end of August (approx). Hours vary.
  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • This position is not salary; paid hourly for the hours actually worked.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three months of experience monitoring a state or federal child food service program; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
