SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR- P/T


Hourly Rate:
$13.00/hour
Open Until Filled: Open until filled, position may close without notice.
Schedule: This position begins early June and runs through mid-August. Hours limited to 40/week and range Monday – Friday between 7am – 6pm. Track Out Camp will be located at the John M. Brown Community Center. *Please note, Camp Counselors are part-time and do not qualify for benefits.*

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING (DESCRIPTION):

Camp Counselors make the summers fun! As a counselor, you will prepare, lead and actively participate in active/passive games, arts and crafts, food experiences, outdoor activities, science experiments and more. Camp Counselors are expected to be a role model and provide meaningful experiences for their campers. This position is supervised by the Camp Coordinators and full-time Recreation Program Supervisor. This position is part-time and does not qualify for benefits. This position begins early June and runs through mid-August. Hours limited to 40/week and range Monday – Friday between 7am – 6pm.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Actively leads participants in active/passive games, arts and crafts, food experiences, outdoor activities, science experiments, and others scheduled by the Camp Coordinator.
  • Effectively communicates at all times with Camp Coordinator.
  • Monitor campers, with support of full-time staff, who have medical/inclusion accommodations.
  • Administer first aid.
  • Documents injuries and behavior incidents alongside Camp Coordinator.
  • Identifies unsafe situations and work hazards, corrects them if possible and reports them to their supervisor.
  • Implements camp rules and maintains behavior management policies in a positive manner.
  • Maintain clean work and play areas.
  • Carries out job duties in a safe manner in accordance with all Town policies; follows safety procedures.
  • Other related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Town and department policies, procedures, safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to apply and administer first-aid and CPR.
  • Ability to observe and work with large groups of children.
  • Follow directions; enforce rules.
  • Exhibit strong verbal, interpersonal and listening communication skills.
  • Possess good customer service skills.


MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years or older at the time of employment.
  • Have a passion for leadership, creativity, camper engagement and fun!
  • Experience working with children ages 6-11.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
  • Preferred candidates will be CPR and first-aid certified and have previous experience working in a track out or summer camp setting.
  • Requires valid NC driver's license.
  • Must pass background and controlled substance screening.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is typically performed while walking, standing, running, bending, crouching or stooping. Employee will occasionally lift light and heavy objects.
