Job Description

Nevada State College (NSC) invites applications for the position of Nepantla Summer Bridge Course Assistant. The Course Assistant will work simultaneously assisting with ENG 100 or MATH 120 and Nepantla Program workshops during our six-week Summer Bridge. The Course Assistant will be expected to help the Summer Bridge Program Director to lead workshops outside of the classroom. These workshops will cover everything from developing a college-going mindset to developing study skills.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Participate in a one-week training for all Summer Bridge staff before our program begins. (Date in June TBA)
  • Assist with workshops and sometimes lead workshops.
  • Prepare and facilitate additional one-on-one meetings with students to discuss a range of topics such as study skills, on-campus .referrals, and community resources.
  • Run Supplemental Instruction.
  • Attend a weekly meeting with an assigned professor.
  • Attend classes each week (ENG 100 or MATH 120).

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at NSC.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (NSC does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Recent graduate/preparing to graduate from Nevada State College to offer their expertise inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Must have a passion about learning and dedicated to supporting diversity in the classroom.
  • Desire to assist students to learn.

Work Hours:

15 hour per week. Student employees can work up to 19.5 hours per week.


Hourly Rate:

$14.00 per hour.
