ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY


SUMMARY: Searching for two to three Part-Time Student Assistants, supporting by an ARI Grant, under the supervision of Dr. Jiangning Che, Dr. Yan Liu, and Dr. Xu Yang.


ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality1500 management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.


The Foundation also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Foundation and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. In addition, the Foundation administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Foundation contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.


SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):

One or more student assistant opportunities are currently available in the Apparel Merchandising & Management Department. The research is about textile coloration using natural plant extracts. The proposed research needs substantial work on hands-on lab experiments and testing, as well as data collection, process, and analysis. Specifically, the student needs to conduct lab experiments in colorants extraction, fabric dyeing, and colorfastness testing. Some other minor duties may include, but are not limited to, experimental data processing, presentation slides preparation, literature search & review, and documentation for experiential learning, etc.


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Degree: Currently pursuing a degree in the AMM, Ag. Science, Chemistry, or closely related field.

Level: Undergraduate or graduate


Preferred

Familiar with textile & apparel, agriculture plant products/by-products, chemistry, or subjects closely related.

Experience with textile lab or science lab.

Dedicated and hardworking.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

A positive, pleasant, “can do” attitude with good problem-solving skills.
