The Interdisciplinary Science Department performs research to help the Nation meet its exponentially growing energy needs over the next century and beyond.

Position Description


A student assistant position will be immediately available in the Interdisciplinary Science Department, Energy Systems Division. The duration of the position will be three months in the summer of 2023 (from May to August 2023). The student will be expected to work 40 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The major responsibility of the student will be the performance of data analytics and machine learning applications in power grid modeling, simulation, control, or cybersecurity, and the implementation in Python and Matlab.

Position Requirements


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Candidates for the position are expected to be Ph.D. or master’s students with training to perform research and development under some guidance.
  • The candidates should have a major in electrical engineering, computer science, or applied mathematics.
  • A background in electric power systems modeling and simulation and data analytics and machine learning techniques are required. Software development skills using programming languages such as Python or Matlab are also required.
  • Experience with OPAL-RT will be preferred.
