Streets Maintenance Operator I
Public Works Department-Streets
Full-time with benefits including sick, vacation & holidays, 401, longevity pay, health, dental, vision and life insurance.

HOURS:

Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and additional hours as necessary to meet the needs of the Town of Berthoud.
Additional Hours: Will be required to perform on-call duty, work weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary to meet the needs of the Town of Berthoud

SUMMARY:

The Street Department Maintenance Operator must be an industrious, self-motivated, dependable individual able to work without supervision, who enjoys working with the general public. This position is responsible for a variety of duties necessary for the operation and maintenance of the Street Department. The Street Department Maintenance Operator shall work at the direction of the Street Department Superintendent and the Public Works Director.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:
This position requires a high school degree or GED. The Street Department Maintenance Operator must have the ability to work well with other employees, volunteers, and the general public. A valid Colorado Driver’s license (class C) and the capability of obtaining a “B” air brake and tanker license within 90 days. Evidence of insurability is required. Experience in street maintenance is helpful but not required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / DUTIES:
 Operates Town vehicles and all equipment such as, but not limited to motor grader, backhoe, snow plow, dump trucks, loaders, street sweeper, mowers, etc.
 Performs all phases of street maintenance such as, but not limited to street patching, storm drain cleaning, roadside and alley clean-up, tree trimming, mowing weeds, installation and maintenance of traffic control sighs, barricades, pavement marking, street sweeping, etc.
 Performs work at the Town Cemetery, including grave excavations and maintenance activities.
 Installs and removes barricades and cones during street maintenance. Also works as a flag person (certified)
 Assists all Public Works Departments.
 Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment, tune-ups, oil change, etc.
 Employ safety practices and procedures.
 Maintain effective and courteous working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, and the general public.
 Performs the above duties and other duties as assigned by the Street Superintendent or the Public Works Director.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Language Skills
 Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals and procedure manuals, as well as write reports.
 Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations to the public, employees or Board of Trustees as well as respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and/or complaints.
Mathematical Skills
 Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
 Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.

 Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools.
