Position Description

JLab’s Computational Science and Technology (CST) division provides advanced computational tools and solutions to support an ecosystem of scientists, engineers, and staff. We are seeking a dynamic Lead Storage Systems Specialist. As part of CST, you will have primary responsibility for coordinating the planning, design, and operation of storage solutions in support of diverse communities including Experimental Nuclear Physics program, the Theory Center, and the Data Science department. In this role you will:

Develop high performance and high throughput storage systems with high availability and class leading performance.

Research and recommend leading storage solutions that balance performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Participate in long-term planning for lab computing infrastructure that will demand concurrent facility operation and upgrades.
Coordinate group projects that involve developers, system administrators, and network staff.
Be an active participant and technical contributor to such storage projects.
Analyze and use trends and monitoring data from diverse sources to tune storage systems.

Produce written documentation for diverse audiences, including system administrators, lab management, peers, and professional organizations

Qualifications We Require:

Education: 

BS degree in Computer Science or other relevant information technology field from an accredited university

Experience:

Six years of experience with the management of large storage systems

¿ K nowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Expert knowledge of Linux System administration

Expertise in the specification, configuration, tuning, and operation of Lustre Filesystems
Desired knowledge of parallel and distributed filesystems
Experience with grid tools such as XRootD, CVMFS, and HTCondor.
Knowledge of Networking including InfiniBand and Ethernet as they pertain to storage systems,
Expert knowledge of Tape-based storage technology

Demonstrated experience in python and shell scripting
Desired knowledge in other languages such as C, C++, Java, and Perl
Ability to work in the data center and to participate in an on-call rotation.

Qualifications We Desire:

MS in computer science or STEM field is preferred
Experience in a dynamic research environment preferred

Strong communication skills and ability to report on progress of tasks and projects
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work on project teams
Excellent leadership and management skills
