Position Summary:
Fosters a healthy work environment. Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care for patients based on established clinical nursing practice standards. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Plans and directs shift workflow for team. Provides for constant collaboration among team members. Provides mentorship to team members as needed. Responsible and accountable for care delivery by the team.Utilizes knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care. Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care. Assesses knowledge deficits and educates patients and families on health maintenance and disease prevention or provides case management. Performs continuous reassessment of symptoms and changes in patients' conditions and intervenes appropriately. Facilitates team meetings at designated intervals to set goals and review patient outcomes. Uses clinical data to evaluate patient's status. Modifies plan of care as indicated by patients' responses and conditions. Reviews medical plan of care and assures implementation. Communicates frequently with physicians, patients, patients’ families, visitors, and co-workers. Accountable for assuring team members provide safe care, i.e. medication administration, restraint safety, risk to fall, integrity of equipment, etc. Behaviors demonstrate commitment to exceptional patient experiences through Service Excellence initiatives. Supports the organization vision, values and mission.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Understands and routinely uses policies and procedures as reference for performance. Can demonstrate basic performance, skills and competencies within a team. Uses Nursing Process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care. Able to write individualized basic plan of care and integrate it with other disciplines. Has knowledge of the information and techniques needed to provide basic nursing care of human injuries, diseases, and deformities. Applies fundamental problem-solving and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrates awareness of essential hospital standards and regulatory requirements. Able to provide basic patient care with frequent supervision. Actively participates in unit-based Performance Improvement projects.

Recognizes meaningful clinical situations and changes in patient status and reports to Team Leader, Charge Nurse, Nursing Supervisor and/or physician. Able to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing. Uses Nursing Process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care. Able to write individualized plan of care and integrate it with other disciplines. Demonstrates experience-based knowledge; recognizes when plan of care needs to be modified in response to unachieved outcomes. Handles moderately complex problems. Functions as part of a larger multidisciplinary team .Identifies patient and family learning needs and provides education. Identifies and appropriately addresses basic patient safety needs. Applies clinical judgment and discretion based on clinical experience and knowledge of standards of practice. Actively participates in unit-based Performance Improvement projects and departmental and/or organizational committees. Demonstrates professional RN behaviors in integrity, honesty and dependability. Demonstrates commitment to continuous professional development through pursuit of Bachelor’s degree, specialty certification; participation in professional organizations. Demonstrates understanding of hospital standards and regulatory requirements. Recognizes opportunities to improve compliance and initiates action by reporting and/or participating in PDCA initiatives. Actively leads and participates in unit-based Performance Improvement projects and departmental and/or organizational committees. Required Education, Licenses, and Certifications:

  • Associate's Degree Nursing
  • Current licensure in North Carolina as a Registered Nurse or Compact state licensure.
  • Basic Life Support
  • *Must obtain specialty qualifications based on the unit specific requirements and population served within one year of employment.
