Staff Research Associate - Bench Scientist in Brain Research Job at University of California San Francisco
The Molofsky Lab at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking a motivated candidate for a full-time research technician position. The technician position will be divided approximately equally between basic research and animal colony management. Most of the technician’s time will be devoted to bench research. This research may be scientific support for an ongoing project in the lab, in collaboration with other lab members, or may include an independent research project depending on the employee’s level of interest and skillset. Current projects in the lab study brain development and aging mouse and zebrafish models. The research project may include a range of techniques such as fluorescent microscopy of brain tissues, molecular biology (PCR, quantitative PCR, RNA extraction), bioinformatics, and behavior. Management duties will include mouse or zebrafish colony management (rodent handling, weaning, genotyping, documentation) and assistance with laboratory tasks (inventory, ordering supplies and equipment, organizing lab social events, etc). Our lab is committed to thoughtful mentorship for our technicians, and this position is an excellent way to gain research experience prior to graduate school.
