Primary Purpose:
Responsible for managing one or more business and/or IT projects related to specific business objectives and goals. Manages the overall coordination of projects from idea through value capture. Ensures that projects deliver the business value originally targeted, and are completed within the constraints of scope, quality, schedule, and budget. Establishes effective communication with other managers across business and technical departments to clarify business requirements and intended outcomes. Coordinates the work of the teams within the projects to deliver regular status reporting, project level risk mitigation strategies and issue management. Complies and adheres to methodology and processes. Works to create a collaborative environment that supports the Univar Solutions Mission and Vision, utilizing project management governance, processes, tools and templates of the Univar Solutions PMO Center of Excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Plans, coordinates, tracks and manages one or more projects to successful completion.
- Works with other project managers, resource managers, technical staff and business leaders to orchestrate projects within the program portfolio to ensure they are planned and executed in alignment with the overall program strategy and plan.
- Develops a trusted advisor relationship with project sponsor and other key stakeholders.
- Defines and manages overall project risks and take corrective action in a proactive manner to mitigate those risks.
- Provides input of resource capacity, estimates and project feasibility.
- Prepares project presentations and status reporting to Director-level and C-level management.
• Provides clear and timely communication to relevant stakeholders. • Develops collaborative working relationships with the business and IT.
- Delivers the project to meet stakeholder expectations relative to schedule, cost and functionality.
Specialized Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of distribution or manufacturing business processes and success metrics.
- 5+ years of proven project management experience with at least 3 years in a project management role required.
- 5-10 years of hands-on experience in a business functional area (sales, finance, supply chain, manufacturing, engineering, procurement, etc.).
- Expert in project management methodologies, tools, and techniques (both Waterfall and Agile). Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong presentation and meeting management skills.
- Proven experience leading at least one large complex project required (20+ team members and multi-million-dollar budget, potentially including 3rd party partners).
- Demonstrated leadership, decision-making and relationship management skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and negotiation/influence skills with ability to achieve results in an ambiguous and changing environment.
- Experience with risk identification, tracking, and response planning.
- Financial planning, budgeting and financial management skills.
- Excellent judgment, problem resolution, team building, negotiation, budgeting, decision-making, & experience working under continual deadline pressure.
- Strong ability to function at both a strategic and tactical level.
- Demonstrated ability to work with multi-organizational teams composed of individuals with expertise in many disciplines.
Education/Training:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from Project Management Institute (PMI) or successful completion of recognized project management curriculum strongly preferred.
- Change Management methodology (Prosci or similar) training preferred.
- Proficiency in PC and Project Management applications (e.g. MS Office, MS Visio, MS Project, etc.) required.
