Summary
The Senior Metal Fabrication Drafter is responsible for reviewing and analyzing customer information to create models and technical drawings in SolidWorks to build a wide variety of fabricated metal products following GenMet’s standard procedures. He/she supports a safe working environment, quality products, on-time delivery of engineering information to the operations team in an efficient manner. The Senior Metal Fabrication Drafter works alongside Sales, Estimating, Customer Service, Purchasing and Operations to accurately and quickly responding to our customers. He/she passionately supports manufacturing “COOL” products and STEM education within GenMet and the broader community.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Review and analyze customer information (i.e. drawings, specifications, verbal direction, etc.) to create fabrication requirements including part tolerances, critical dimensions, cosmetic and finishing standards and instructions.
  • Prepare models and technical drawings (blueprints) in SolidWorks, a computer aided design software, to build a wide variety of fabricated metal products following GenMet’s standard procedures.
  • Provide production employees ready access to the information and tools needed to successfully fabricate and assure the quality of customer parts and assemblies. Proactively pursue opportunities and resolve issues.
    • Incorporate lessons learned to improve production techniques and efficiencies.
  • Program automated manufacturing systems (laser/laser turret cutting machines and Inspection equipment).
  • Generate required inspection documentation templates and electronic files to ensure part compliance.
  • Resolve design problems and prepare variations of design or materials for Customer consideration.
  • Compute mathematical formulas to develop design specifications.
    • Compute dimensions of materials to support purchasing activities.
    • Correct drawing or specification deficiencies.
    • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment
    • Adhere to quality standards and processes. Resolve corrective actions, non-conforming products and deviations.
    • Support “Yellow Sheet” (or continuous improvement) submittals by team and complete in a timely manner
    • Support equipment, new tooling and replacement tooling activities
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in a Mechanical Drafting program or related field and a minimum of 5 years Manufacturing Engineering and/or Mechanical Drafting experience preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of SolidWorks or the ability to become proficient in SolidWorks and other Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
  • Able to read blueprints, Able to use (or quickly learn) Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) desired
  • Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing methods and procedures desired
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication internal and external to the organization
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and ability to learn new software programs as required.
  • Attention to detail and consistent follow-through.
  • Customer focused team member with unquestionable ethics.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to safely and successfully perform the job functions
  • Must be able to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally life up to 25 Lbs.
