Job description

Location: Grosse Pointe Woods. Monday-Friday 4-6 Hours Daily

Summary:

Provides speech-language pathology services to patients impaired by cognitive/communicative or swallowing dysfunction, including assessment, treatment planning and implementation of treatment plans. Completes appropriate documentation and adheres to policies, procedures, applicable licensure laws, and current standards of clinical practice.

  • Conducts speech-language pathology screenings and evaluations to determine patient cognitive/communicative and/or swallowing status using standardized tests and measures.
  • Develops and implements treatment plans to reach patients’ highest potential for independence consistent with the professional and ethical standards of the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) in order to improve and maintain function and to reach patients’ highest potential for independence.
  • Assess effects of treatment on an ongoing basis and modifying the patient’s plan to achieve maximum benefit.
  • Checks, instructs, assigns and reviews the work of CFY as assigned and in accordance with ASHA standards.
  • Confers with physician and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revision in treatment program and integrate speech therapy treatment with other aspects of patient’s health care.
  • Provides documentation to maintain quality of the medical record as it relates to accuracy, continuity of care, reimbursement guidelines, and agency requirements.
  • Participates, as requested, in patient and family care conferences.
  • Educate and instructs patient and family/caregiver(s) in treatment procedures to be continued when not in therapy or as a home exercise program.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance activities as directed by Agency Administrator, and/or site specific Director of Therapy.
  • Promotes current standards of clinical practice through participation in internal and external continuing education, in-service programs and certifications sponsored by the agency.
  • Participates in new program development to expand the clinical services of the rehabilitation agency.
  • Participates in agency meetings and additional activities as directed to facilitate effective agency operations.
  • Observes patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Abides by all safety, infection control and other guidelines as required.
  • Rotates to other clinic locations to meet patient care needs and other duties as assigned.

Education and Accreditation

  • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence
  • Licensure as required by the State of Michigan
